Thanks for any help on this perennial issue. The installation worked every time with very little hair loss. For some reason I was able to find ISO's of many versions of VMware Tools for Windows. When I click on "Install VMware Tools" the machine just makes repeated attempts to connect to the server, which will never happen.Īlthough it doesn't prove I know what I'm doing, I have installed VMware Tools on several Windows XP guests. I've tried Open VM Tools as well, and followed the instructions included, but the commands didn't produce the responses described. I'll admit I may have looked in the wrong place, but I looked many times and have spent many hours on this. Of course I don't have and can't find a VMware tools ISO file for Ubuntu. I know there are LOTS of instructions on how to do this, and it seem they all start off with "Mount your ISO file." or "click on 'Install VMware Tools.'. The machine on which it is running does not have internet access it's part of an isolated network. I need to install VMware Tools in an Ubuntu Guest (10.04) running in VMware Player.
